Our Responses:

I loved the book Because of Winn Dixie because it reminded me of my childhood. It also brought back memories of being the "new kid on the block" and helped me to remember what it is like to move to a new place and feel lonely. My favorite part of the story is when Opal's father tells her that her momma left behind one very important thing: her, of course! This was a perfect way to end the story and made me cry the first time I read it.

I think Kate DiCamillo is a wonderful author. I love how she writes using similes and descriptive language to make the story interesting and exciting. My favorite simile is when she compares Opal missing her momma to "the hole you feel when you lose a tooth." We can all relate to that feeling, can't we?

This is the 6th time I have read this book and it keeps getting better and better! I hope that each and every one of you will read it again someday too!

I love Because of Winn Dixie! This has to be one of my favorite books that we read in 3rd grade. I think that Kate DiCamillo did an excellent job of keeping the story interesting, funny and even sad at times. Opal reminded me of myself because my father died when I was only two years old. The only memories that I have of him are from the things that my mother told me, just like the list of ten things that Opal learns about her mother.

My favorite part of the book was the part when the dog was hitting the policeman's car really hard. I like it becaused everybody laughed in the classroom. My favorite character was Winn Dixie, the dog. He was my favorite character because I really like dogs and I laugh to myself when the neighbor step in something that belonged to Winn Dixie. I would not have change any part of the book because I think it was perfect just like it was written. I liked the story a lot. I think Winn Dixie was Opal's closest friend because he helped Opal get all the friends she needed. I would rank the book a 4 overall.

This is the frst time that I have read this book and I love it. I like that I could really get into the story. My favorite part in the book was when Otis was playing his guitar. I liked the music. I would never change anything about the book or the movie. My favorite character is Winn Dixie because he is funny and you got to love a dog that can smile. I think Opal's closest friend was Winn Dixie because she could talk to him and he helped her make new friends and because of that she had a really fun party with all her friends. I would give this a 4 overall.

This is about my 3rd favorite book i have ever read. My favorite part is at the end, where they were all singing. It really taught me something about friendship! My favorite character is Winn Dixie because he is so funny at some parts in the movie and the book! I don't think i would've changed anything in the book. It's great the way it is now! I agree with Paige on who is her closest friend. I'm leaning between a rate of 4-5... Anyway, I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Below is a picture of my dog, Elvis.

If I were the author I would put more action/adventure in the book. I enjoy books that have a lot of adventure, action and kid humor. I didn't like the book because it needed a lot more kid humor. I think the book was a little to easy to read. My favorite character was Winn Dixie because I really really like dogs and because he was the funniest character. I think Winn Dixie is Opal's closest friend. If I were the author I would have changed the book a lot. I think the rating should be between 1 and 2. I think this was not a very good book.

I think this book was phenominal beacause it sort of happend to me when I first moved to Texas. I didn't have any friends like Opal when she moved. I also liked this book because it had a great story line and it was obout friendship. My favorite carictars are Winn-Dixie, and Opal. And think the movie should be more like the book, otherwise the Winn-Dixie movie & book are amazing.

This is one of the best books I have ever read. My favorite part of Because of Winn-Dixie is when Opal first gets Winn-Dixie. One funny part I liked was when the store manager gets run over by a dog named Winn-Dixie. I think Gloria Dump is Opal's best friend. At the begining Opal didn't like the Dewberry boys.

I thought this book was just alright, but not great. My favorite character was Winn Dixie because I love dogs. At the end of the story I thought Winn Dixie was Opal's best friend, because it was the first friend she met when she moved. I would rate this book a 1 out of 5, it needed more excitement.

I think that this is a pretty good book. The author really put some detail into it. I liked how she used comparisons, like where she said "It's like the empty feeling that you get when you lose a tooth. Your tongue keeps going to that spot." I like it because it's like the logic we do sometimes in GT. It could have used more exciting things. I would rate it a 4 out of 5 because it wasn't challenging enough.

I just finished the book “Because of Winn-Dixie” with my 3rd grade class. My favorite part of the book was when all of the animals gathered around Otis and listen to Otis play the guitar. My favorite character was Opal. She was interesting and used a lot of expression when she talked.

If I could change a part of the book I would not have Winn-Dixie run away from the party. I loved the way the book ended. Gloria Dump becomes a good friend to Opal and Opal finds Winn-Dixie. I loved reading this book so much. I would recommend it for other 3rd graders to read.

My favorite part of the book, was when they showed the store saying Winndixie. I also liked the part of the book when all the animals run around inside Gertrude's Pets, and it made me laugh. Otis is my favorite character. I would not change one thing about the book. Opal's best friend at the middle of the story is Mrs. Frany Blocks. She became her friend because she told her about the bear story. At the end of the story, Dunlap and Stevie were her best frineds because they helped her up when she was sad on the ground. This book is definitely a 5. It has lots of details in the story. I thought this book was sad in the middle, happy in the beginning and happy in the ending.

My favorite part of Winn Dixie was when Miss Franny Block told Opal a story about her great grandfather inventing Littmus Lozenges because they were both sad and sweet, at the same time, just like the story. My favorite character was Otis because he liked playing his guitar for the animals who enjoyed listening to him play. I liked the book just the way it is. Gloria Dump was Opal's closest friend at the end of the story because of the way she changed, from originally not allowing Opal to have a party at her house to having the time of her life in her old age. Because of Winn Dixie is probably a 4. It was a very good book and I enjoyed reading it. Marshall Logwinuk 3rd Grade - Mrs. Dow's class

My favorite part of the book was when the animals gathered around Otis and he played guitar because I play guitar too. My favorite character was Winn Dixie. If I were the author I would have given the story more action. I think Winn Dixie was Opal's closest friend at the end because the were good friends through the whole story. I would rate this book a 3 out of 5 because it was kind of dull.

My favorite part of the book Winn Dixie was when Otis played his guitars for the animals. That's my favorite part because I like to play guitars, too. My favorite charactor is Winn Dixie because I have a dog. I think Stevie & Dunlap Dewberry just want to be friends. I think Opal and Gloria Dump are good friends. I want a Littmus Lozenge. I think the book was okay, it just needed more details. I think other kids would like it.

My favorite part of the story was when Opal found Winn Dixie because her mood turned from terrible to fantastic. I also liked seeing Winn Dixie pull the oficers pants down in the movie. My favorite character in the book was Ms. Frany Block because she tells a lot of storys. I think Winn Dixie was Opals best friend at the end of the story because he helps her get friends. If I could change the story I would change that they didnt find Winn Dixie so they could have a series. I would give this book a 3.

-Alex De La Fuente, 3rd, age 9, grade,Ms Brock`s class**

My favorite part of the story was when Ms. Franny Block told the story of her great grandfather in the Civil War. I liked when the goat started ramming it's head into the officer's car & when the goose snuck into the officer's car & started to attack him, that's what I like about the movie. My favorite character in the book was Winn-Dixie because he was crazy (but in a good way) & he tries to make friends with people by smiling at them. I think Winn- Dixie was Opal's best friend at the end of the book because without Winn-Dixie Opal wouldn't have the party & she would be lonesome. If I could change something it would be that the food & the Dump Punch didn't get ruined. I would rate this book as a 4 out of 5.

I think the book was an inspiration. I rate it at 4. My favorite charecter was Winn-Dixie because he managed to get Opal through everything. My favorite part of Because of Winn-Dixie is at the very end when everyone is singing and having a good time (after Opal finds out Winn-Dixie's where abouts). I would not change anything about the book. I would write a sequal about when Opal is older and decides to go search for her mom. I thnk Winn-Dixie is Opal's closest friend at the end of the book because he goes through everything with Opal.
